Where to Stay

We strongly recommend staying in Austin's East Side, Downtown, or Holly neighborhoods. These will be closest to the venues where we'll have events and where we'll meet up. For reference, Carol and Dorian's house is located at 2401 Bryan St. Austin, TX 78702. You may want to check out Airbnb, VRBO, Hipcamp, etc. for accommodations.

These are some hotels that are close to the venues that may be good to book at:

Things to do in Austin

  • Kayak or Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) on Town Lake or Go For a Swim at Barton Springs Pool
  • Attend a live music or comedy show! Check out listings in the Austin Chronicle. Our favorite venues include Hotel Vegas, the Parish, the Paramount and Stateside Theaters, and the Vortex at the Butterfly Bar.
  • Eat world class BBQ at KG's (Carol's favorite - Egyptian/Texan fusion), Micklethwait (Dorian's fav, more traditional) or Franklin's (prepare to wait a long time in line)
  • Hike and enjoy natural beauty in the Barton Creek Greenbelt or at the Lady Bird Wildflower Center - check out the wildflowers, tour the grounds, learn more about the unique Central Texas ecosystem
  • Enjoy a cold drink and gourmet food at Patrizi's, Kinda Tropical, Hillside Farmacy
  • Get caffeinated! Some good coffee shops to check out - Figure 8, Fleet, Flitch, Greater Goods, Flat Track, Dear Diary, Brew&Brew
  • Get some (breakfast) tacos! Veracruz All Natural, Granny's, Nixta Taqueria, Lazarus Brewing
  • Grab a craft beer! Black Star, Lazarus, Friends & Allies, Meanwhile

How to get around

All the festivities are located near downtown Austin which is approximately 15 minutes drive from Austin Bergstrom International Airport.

Austin has a public transportation system called CapMetro. You can take a bus to/from the airport to downtown. From there you can catch a bus to the east side which is closer to the festivities. You may or may not want to rent a car or a bike for the duration of your stay.

Austin also has e-scooters provided by Lime and Bird. Be careful if you choose this option! and have fun! If you stay close to The Cathedral you will be able to walk to the event and the brunch on Sunday.

You can catch a ride with Lyft, Uber or similar ride share companies or get a cab through ATX Co-op Taxi and Lone Star Taxi, among other options.

A note from Carol

Hey y'all, some of you may know already, but in case you don't, I identify as non-binary and I use they/them pronouns. I'd so appreciate it if you could refer to me this way, although I understand it will take some time to get used to for those of you I've known for a long time. Thanks for your love and understanding!
